It all began sometime around November-December 2008. Confusion started to knock Nimit’s mind whether to venture into direct sales or branding. The search was on. After all, for a guy of such an age, confusion is bound to develop. With the first freelancing client, AIM Events which wanted to create a website, the idea bulb gave a glow registering in his mind the idea to start a branding company! He seized that idea and converted it to his first venture. The search was over and the idea frozen.
The search might be over but a new hunt began. The company was left without a name. Without a name Nimit could not have taken the first step. He consulted several people like-Nishith Shah, CA and Mr Amit Das, MD of Das Credit Capital before venturing into this business he was as new in this consultancy business. In his long conversations with these 2 experienced consultants in their own line of businesses an idea kept buzzing throughout-“Nimit if you have to make a mark in your industry you have to be ‘out of the box’.”Being a weirdo by nature he had to name his company with a word that would make people aware of him and his company – OUT OF THE BOX. He wanted to come in the forefront with a bang, with something unique. Frankly this name is not unique. It’s a cliché in our industry. But he wanted this cliché word to be remembered in its essence and hence he decided to name his company- ‘OUT OF THE BOX!’
How good is your design?
Depends on how good is it at communicating various aspects associated with not only design but nature of your business and market standards, whether the colors, fonts, elements are used as per your industry! These insights can only be provided by consultants. Identity consultants create value and are the core creators of business success. It was about understanding and building a brand and giving the desired identity to a client’s business. That’s what Out of the box all is about.
Welcome of Art Director / 1 + 1 = the power of two.
It’s a story about this guy working for some other company designing stuff for Out of the box of course without hampering the other company’s work, this guy who is passionate about design, colors, fonts, so much so that he would come and work for Out of the Box post 7.00 in the evening once he is done with his job in the previous company. Nimit was looking out for someone who if not match his passion but could simply reach nearby his zest. He needed a creative genius. He wanted someone who could take Out of the box to the next level, a creative whiz! Soon the story of that guy got intertwined with that of Out of the Box’s story. While trying out the designing skills of a long lost friend – ‘that guy’ Out of the box found their creative guru who today is the art director of Out of the box!
At first it seemed very easy to begin with, especially when you have a client before the business starts. But the taste of success isn’t always sweet. 18hours of brainstorming to ideate an identity for a client with 5 businesses-wedding planning, events, hotels and interior designing didn’t really turn out the way it was anticipated to be. That brought the team back to earth. Fate brought a similar dilemma; however, this time rejection was faced even before the tickling of gray cells had begun. Failure taught Nimit a great deal- Life isn’t rock solid. It has its own share of upheavals!
Office expeditions at Out of the box altogether form another chapter of the story. Beginning with the first office, Nimit had zero capital to deposit as rent for an office. He encountered a difficult problem as it was impossible to function without a proper office. But as they say where there is a will, there is a way. Nimit is not someone who would give up so easily. A close friend’s father allowed Nimit to start work from an empty office at the bottom section of a duplex office. That was Out of the box’s first office. But knowing him how he hates living under obligations even from a well wisher it did not came as surprise when he decided to rent out an office out of the purview of well wishers and relatives. Eventually, Out of the box shifted to its second office, a 300 square feet readymade office that suited his requirements. With 6 clients in 1 month things were going smooth until all hell broke in the form of unavailability of decent internet networks within the vicinity. After having gone frustrated with it, he finally decided to revoke the contract with the leaser and hunt for a new office. Till then the company operated from his home – his third office. Yes that true you heard the right thing and you heard it here first. For almost 2 months the company’s official address was that of Nimit’s residential address as he couldn’t find the perfect match for his new office. Finally at present he has an office of choice – his fourth office with a cabin that has a view of the adjoining room where the entire team functions from. And by know you must have already guessed his plans of shifting to yet another place that matches his size of ambitions!
Out of the box started with only 2 people in the entire year. It was time to pedal things up. Out of the box started adding the right talents. Web professional- Kuldeep Daftary and Development officer- Milan Maldani came on board in the exciting journey called Out of the box. Eventually, more talent was added in the pool-Samkit, Aneesh, Kedar and the “kachcha nimboos”...ahem…the interns Akhilesh and Ankitaa. Nimit has a reason to be proud of his team as some of the impossible tasks were made possible over a very short span of time. But don’t start judging yet…Out of the box continues to unfold impossible tasks time and again.
For a journey that has set its footprints for more than a year, it was time for Out of the box to hear what they were waiting to hear, to affirm what Out of the box really stands for. Before Nimit started with this venture, people said it would take him 5 years to prove himself. But he turned it around in just a years time. Out of the box has served more than 28 clients today and guess what? Most of them have just one thing to say, “They are simply OUT-OF-THE-BOX!” This one statement keeps their pulses rating over more than 40 Sundays since they started.
